Back, neck and shoulder pain

If you are one of the millions of back pain sufferers, you might want to consider this non-invasive form of therapy. For most people suffering from back pain, massage therapy, along with self-care it is an effective form of treatment in managing, reducing and eliminating back pain.

Common back pain, neck pain can be attributed to stress, anxiety, poor posture, sitting long hours at the desk, standing for long period of time, workplace injuries, overuses and activities of daily life.

The joints and muscles can become injured and overstrained.  This causes inflammation, excessive muscle tension, muscle spasm, stiffness, aches, pain.  In some cases, the aches, pain lasts only for a few days, however, many of us experience prolonged periods or episodes of back pain that often return for no apparent reason.

There are three common patterns of back and neck pain that patients typically experience: the upper body, consisting of the neck, upper back, shoulders and arms; the mid back or thoracic region; and the lower body, including the low back, gluteal muscles, hips, and legs.

The physical manipulation in massage has two major physical effects:

  • Increase in blood and lymph circulation

  • Relaxation and normalization of the soft tissue (muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments), which releases nerves and deeper connective tissues. Improved circulation can enhance the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to muscle cells. As cellular health improves, tissues function more efficiently. More efficient functioning leads to the removal of waste products and may increase the absorption of excess fluids and reduce swelling in soft tissues, relaxes muscle tissue, which reduces painful contractions and spasms.
