Body cleansing, scrubs, and body polish

Body skin is all too often overlooked when it comes to the daily beauty regime. Some of us simply don't have time for all that scrubbing, exfoliating, cleansing and moisturizing. When we have work to do and families to look after, time can be precious and skin-care often has to take a backseat. Unfortunately, neglected skin often means dry, unhealthy, dull-looking skin, which in turn can lead to premature wrinkles, excess grease etc.

Scrub or body polish is a spa treatment which exfoliates the skin on your body leaving it feeling fresh, smooth, moisturized and soft. An abrasive product is rubbed vigorously, and massaged across and into your skin, and is then rinsed away to reveal a moisturized layer of fresh, clean and smooth skin.

A scrub can be really invigorating as well, and improve the circulation of blood and lymph to the surface of the skin, helping to fight cellulite and improve your skin tone.

  • it prepares your skin for an even tan

  • it opens the pores and wakens the skin before a wrap or mud treatment

  • the oils used can relax or stimulate your senses ready for any similarly-focused treatment that you might be having afterward or just for the application of a deep moisturizing cream or lotion.

Body wraps

Different body wraps serve different purposes, and it's important to understand the difference between detox, hydrating and slimming wraps so you get the experience you want. First, body wraps always start with some kind of exfoliation.  At the very least, there will be a dry body brushing.  However, a dry body brushing is not nearly so effective as a body scrub.

Hydrating body wrap

Hydrating body wraps use creams and gels to soften, soothe, nourish and hydrate the skin.

Detoxing and remineralizing body wraps

Detox wraps use a variety of products such as algae, seaweed, mud, clay or gel to help rid the body of toxins.  When the product is applied to the body, it's called a body mask.  Then you are wrapped in plastic and covered with a blanket for about 20 minutes, which is the body wrap.  These products work by stimulating your circulation, drawing out impurities, and giving your body minerals it might be missing.  Afterward, the body mask is washed off and you may get an "application of lotion," which means it's not a massage.

Who should get a detox body wrap:  Save this for when you really are making changes in your diet and trying to reduce your toxic load.
